-Dave introduces the Layer Comps palette, which is a useful place to experiment and create variations of your image by changing the layers.

- Scott shares a tip for using CS3 Camera Raw to easily repair a set photos that were shot with debris on the lens and/or sensor. Scott also has another tip for editing your jpeg and tiff images in Camera Raw.
-Dave has a tutorial for adding a neon effect to text in a way that allows you the flexibility to edit the text afterward.

Changing adjustment layers without having to redo the layer mask.
Automate: crop and straighten your scanned photos with a simple command.
Double-click your adjustment sliders in Camera Raw to get them back to default settings.
Use smart objects in your layout and you’ll have a template that you can use for other photos using the Replace Contents command.
Blending multiple exposures to get the best areas out of each photo.
Camera Raw preview checkbox only toggles the changes made with that panel.
Quickly add extra canvas around your image with the crop tool.
Straighten a crooked photo using the lens correction filter.
Open and process your JPEGs in Camera Raw and set your preferences to open all JPEGs in Camera Raw.
Keyboard shortcuts for working with type.
Create a clipping mask and place your photo into any shape.
Use the history brush to create a classic wedding photo effect.
Applying smart filters to your type layers will keep the text editable.
When retouching, open your image in a new window so you can see your adjustments in context.
Type fonts with the word Pro after them have extra font options available.
Edit your keyboard shortcuts so that your most-used adjustment layers are easy to call up.

Part 1 - Setting up Maya.
In this lesson we go through setting up Maya to work better with the UDK.

In this lesson we continue modelling in Maya, adjusting UV's and applying a bend deformer.

In this lesson we put the finishing touches on the model in Maya, adjusting the scale for snapping to the UDK grid.
Part 5 - Export from Maya for ZBrush.
In this lesson we prepare and export the model in OBJ format for ZBrush.

In this lesson we put import the model into ZBrush and set up groups for quick selections.

In this lesson we blend parts of the mesh together and apply a border to cover mesh seams in UDK.
Part 22 - Finishing and exporting the texture file.
In this lesson we put the finishing touches on our texture and export it out.
Part 23 - Exporting the normal and displacement maps.
In this lesson we go through the process of exporting out normal and displacement maps.
Part 24 - Preparing the texture and normal maps in Photoshop.
In this lesson we process the textures in Photoshop to save memory in UDK, using alpha channels for grey scale images.
Part 25 - Bringing in the mesh and setting up the material.
In this lesson we import the mesh into UDK and begin making the material from our textures.
Part 26 - Fixing colours and creating pulsing glows.
In this lesson we fix some of the problems with our material, tinting the specular and emissive channels with the colours from our material, and apply a pulsing effect to our glowing "eyes".
Part 27 - Applying a bump offset to the material and placing the mesh.
In this lesson we take a look at the bump offset node in the material editor and use it to create the illusion of depth.
Part 28 - Testing the material in game and creating collision meshes.
In this lesson we have a look at how the material looks in the game, applied to our new mesh and create our collision meshes.
Part 29 - Creating a low resolution version of the mesh.
In this lesson we simplify our base mesh to create a lower resolution version of our object.
Part 30 - Creating a high resolution version of the mesh.
In this lesson we import the higher resolution mesh that we exported from ZBrush and process it in Maya for use in UDK.
Part 31 - Reducing polygon counts in the high resolution mesh.
In this lesson we reduce the polygon count of our high resolution mesh.
Part 32 - Adapting the material with new textures and placement in level.
In this lesson we process the textures exported for the high resolution mesh and adapt the material with the new textures.
Part 33 - In game testing and completion of the unit.

I'm Andy Harris, the author of Beginning Flash Game Programming for Dummies. I'm very excited about this book. It's something I've wanted to write for a very long time. I love games, I love programming, and I love teaching. You'll see all three passions combined in this book.

I grew up inventing games long before ordinary people could own a computer. When I got ahold of my first computer, I wrote games on it (and did some serious stuff too.)

My first career was teaching severe disabilities special education. I really enjoyed that job, and it taught me a lot about how to explain things clearly without being insulting. While I was working as a special education teacher, I kept programming. I wrote some games for fun, and did some serious freelance programming, as well as teaching programming part time at the local university.

Now I'm a full time computer science instructor at Indiana University / Purdue University - Indianapolis. (Yes, that is the longest university name in the world.) I teach all kinds of programming languages and styles, but I never forget to have fun and enjoy teaching.

I've written several other books on various programming topics, but this one is special. First, I'm thrilled to be writing in the landmark Dummies series. It's an honor to be associated with such an established title. At the same time, it's fun to work with a publisher that encourages me to write bad puns. That turned out to be no problem, as you'll see. The best part is I get to write about my passion.

Computer games are a lot of fun. So why is it that books about writing games are so painful? I wanted to write a book that was fun, but also teaches you the stuff you need so you can write your own games. If you sit down and work through this book, I promise you you'll be able to make good games.
